UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 3 aims to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all people.
We must reduce premature mortality from non-communicable diseases by one third. Non-communicable diseases include cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes and chronic respiratory disease.
World Health Organization has identified sedentary behaviour as the world’s 4th leading risk factor for mortality and morbidity.
WHO states that sedentary lifestyles increase all causes of mortality, double the risk of cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and obesity, and increase the risks of colon cancer, high blood pressure, osteoporosis, lipid disorders, depression and anxiety.
According to WHO, 60 to 85% of people in the world — from both developed and developing countries — lead sedentary lifestyles, making it one of the more serious yet insufficiently addressed public health problems of our time.
